In June of 2003, the refined, casual, yet spirited Empress of the North recaptured the romance of steamboat cruising, offering passengers a deluxe cruise experience aboard a luxury steamboat in one of the most popular cruising destinations in the world, the Inside Passage of Alaska.

Steamboats, with their shallow drafts, are able to give passengers the full Alaska experience that is not available when cruising on a large ship.  There are many areas a steamboat can go that are inaccessible to a large ship: Wrangell Narrows, Serigius Narrows, Peril Strait, Le Conte Bay and Misty Fjords.  Imagine sailing right up to a glacier or close to shore to view a mother bear and her cubs or a waterfall.  All this is possible with a steamboat cruise.  See Alaska in comfortable, luxurious surroundings.  See the Alaska others only dream about.
