Steamboat, Sternwheeler, Paddleboat -- whatever you want to call them -- cruises are not just about the destination you visit.  It is about the onboard experience.  It is reliving history.  Ocean-going cruise ships have always had their place in time. At one time, steamboat travel was one of the mainstays of transportation in the United States.  Then the grand dames of the river disappeared -- much the same as elegant train travel disappeared from the American landscape -- or the hand-carved carousel horse was replaced with fiberglass.

Steamboat cruises appeal to persons who want to feel a part of the past.  The boats offer glimpses into what it was like back in the 1800's, and their itineraries teach about our history and how the rivers helped the United States become what it is today.

The Queen of the West was the first overight passenger sternwheeler to be built and operated in the West in 80 years.  What makes this boat unique is it is propelled solely by its 3-story paddlewheel, just like the ones from the 1800's.  However, those earlier boats relied on steam for propulsion.  The Queen of the West is powered by a revolutionary hydraulic propulsion system that uses environmentally safe biodegradable hydraulic oil.

Over the years, the Queen of the West has won numerous awards from CruiseReports and Conde Nast Traveler.

7-Night Cruises on the Columbia, Snake, and Willamette Rivers offer total immersion in nature, as the paddlewheel boat navigates through gorges, locks and dams and past scenic sites.

The Queen of the West offers passengers casually elegant surroundings -- but never stiff or stuffy. The ship's corridors display art and photos depicting the history of the West.  It was designed to ensure that all public rooms and staterooms have huge view windows so the beautiful outdoor scenery can easily be viewed from inside the boat.  On deck, view the passing scenery or simply watch the paddlewheel as you stretch back into a comfortable deck chair on the spacious observation deck.

The staff Historian/Naturalist and/or featured guests provide an enriching on-going narration of the scenic and cultural points of interest as the Queen of the West navigates the Columbia, Snake and WIllamette Rivers.  Small group tours on land offer more personalized sightseeing. Live entertainment is a highlight of the evening with musicians and vocalists providing an ever-changing array of musical themes by guest entertainers and the ship's band.   Resident musical experts perform contemporary favorites for your listening and dancing pleasure.
